“Great things are done by a series of small things brought together”-Vincent Van Gogh

Since I was a child, I have had a deep-seated desire to make art. One memory I have was when my elementary teacher assigned me the task of painting a scene from my home. With enthusiasm, I chose to paint the apple orchard located on the quiet back road of our family farm. Upon presenting my completed work to my father, he asked why I had chosen to portray the road in a vibrant shade of red. I recall explaining to him that this was the color I naturally perceived. It was then that he realized I had highlighted a burgundy weed that flourished in that area, transforming my memory of it into a scarlet beauty that harmonized with the red apples adorning the trees. My father, recognizing my artistic expression, hung my creation on the wall. This piece of art encapsulated all that was dear to me in vivid colors and childlike expression. I believe that an artist's view is one of enlightenment, seeing the world through a personal spectrum of colors that is moving to experience.
